Eco-Friendly Adjara 2026: A Regional Environmental Initiative Across All Six Municipalities of Adjara

The pilot project “Eco-Friendly Kakheti 2026,” implemented between April and June 2026, achieved significant results in raising environmental awareness and promoting responsible waste management practices across the region. Building on this successful experience, the Wasteless Association is expanding its regional efforts through a new initiative, “Eco-Friendly Adjara 2026.”

The project covers all six municipalities of Adjara and aims to promote proper e-waste management, raise environmental awareness, and encourage young people to take an active role in environmental initiatives. As part of the initiative, 36 public schools across the region have been selected to participate in educational sessions and practical activities.

As part of the project, Wasteless held a meeting with the mayors of all six municipalities of Adjara, as well as representatives of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. During the meeting, participants were introduced to the project’s objectives, planned activities, and opportunities for regional cooperation. A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Wasteless and all six municipalities, establishing a framework for supporting local environmental initiatives and developing long-term cooperation in the effective management of specific waste streams.

Educational Sessions in Adjara’s Schools

From October 20 to 29, the Wasteless team conducted educational sessions at 36 selected public schools across all six municipalities of Adjara. The sessions were held in two stages: during the first week, the team visited schools in Batumi, Khulo, and Kobuleti, while the second week focused on Shuakhevi, Keda, and Khelvachauri municipalities.

Through interactive training sessions, students learned about proper e-waste management, its environmental impact, the principles of the circular economy, and the importance of responsible waste collection. The sessions also included discussions and practical examples, giving students the opportunity to share their perspectives and eco-friendly ideas.

With the completion of the educational sessions, the first phase of the project was successfully concluded. The initiative has now moved into its next phase, encouraging students to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice and participate in hands-on environmental activities.

E-Waste Collection Competition and Social Media Activities

On October 30, a two-week e-waste collection competition began across the 36 participating schools in Adjara. Each selected school has been provided with a specially branded outdoor Wasteless e-waste collection container, where students can drop off unwanted electronic devices brought from home and contribute to their school's success in the competition.

The project also features a social media competition open to students from all participating schools. Students are invited to create creative video content addressing environmental issues and e-waste management. The initiative aims not only to encourage students to take part in environmental activities themselves, but also to share their knowledge and ideas with their peers and the wider community.

Local municipalities are also actively supporting the competition. Their contribution includes providing logistical assistance to schools, allocating suitable spaces for collected e-waste, and helping coordinate the collection process.

Project Closing Event

“Eco-Friendly Adjara 2026” will conclude with a closing Eco-Festival on November 28 at Batumi Sports Palace. The event will feature the announcement and award ceremony for the winning schools. The winners will receive monetary prizes to support the implementation of their own environmental initiatives.

The festival will also feature an exhibition of eco-friendly businesses, along with a range of educational and recreational activities, providing project participants with an opportunity to share their experiences and achievements.

“Eco-Friendly Adjara 2026” builds on the experience gained through the project implemented in the Kakheti region and aims to further strengthen environmental action at the regional level. Through cooperation with local self-governments and educational institutions, the initiative promotes effective waste management practices across Adjara and contributes to building a culture in which caring for the environment becomes part of everyday life.
