“Eco-Friendly Kakheti 2026” Awareness Meetings Held in Schools

As part of Wasteless’s large-scale pilot regional project, Eco-Friendly Kakheti 2026, educational and awareness-raising meetings are actively taking place in 35 selected schools across all eight municipalities of Kakheti. The main goal of the project is to strengthen environmental culture among young people, promote proper waste management practices, and create a more sustainable environment through the involvement of future generations.

On April 20, the first educational meeting was held with seven selected schools from the Telavi Municipality. During the sessions, students received training and valuable information on waste management, the proper disposal of electronic waste, the importance of protecting the environment and public health, and the principles of the circular economy. The meeting was conducted in an interactive format, where students asked insightful questions, received comprehensive answers, and actively participated in discussions.

On April 21, project activities continued with students from four schools in the Akhmeta Municipality. As part of the meeting, short interviews were also recorded with students, during which they shared their views, ideas, and perspectives on the importance of caring for the environment. A representative from the municipality also attended the meeting in Akhmeta and confirmed their readiness to actively participate in and support the project.

As part of the second week of the project, meetings continued in four additional municipalities of Kakheti: Signagi, Dedoplistskaro, Lagodekhi, and Sagarejo. From April 28 to May 1, the Wasteless team met with students from a total of 16 public schools and conducted training sessions on waste management, circular economy, environmental protection, and the proper management of electronic waste.

During the same week, we also selected the location for the campaign’s final eco-festival, scheduled for May 30 - Lagodekhi Park, located within the Lagodekhi Protected Areas. The festival will feature various educational and entertainment activities, special spaces for children, and a musical evening with the band Mgzavrebi.

As part of the third and final week of the project, educational meetings were held in the municipalities of Gurjaani and Kvareli. On May 5, the Wasteless team met with students from Gurjaani Public Schools No. 1 and No. 2, Guram Chilashvili Public School No. 4, and Bakurtsikhe Public School. The meetings were also attended by the Mayor of Gurjaani Municipality, who highlighted the importance of the project and the active involvement of young people in environmental initiatives.

On May 6, educational sessions were held at the Ilia Chavchavadze House Museum in Kvareli, providing students with a unique and memorable experience in one of Georgia’s most significant historical and cultural sites. Participants included students from Ilia Chavchavadze Kvareli Public School No. 1, Akhalsopeli Public School No. 2, Shilda Public School No. 1, and Kvareli Public School No. 2.

Over the course of three weeks, the Wasteless team visited all 35 selected public schools across the eight municipalities of Kakheti, engaging hundreds of students through interactive sessions on waste management, circular economy principles, environmental protection, and the proper handling of electronic waste.

Following the completion of the educational phase, the electronic waste collection competition and TikTok social media campaign officially launched on May 7. Special collection boxes for electronic waste were installed in all 35 participating schools, giving students the opportunity to contribute both by collecting electronic waste and by creating creative TikTok videos promoting environmental awareness. The high level of enthusiasm, creativity, and participation demonstrated throughout the campaign once again highlighted the growing engagement of young people in environmental issues.
