Sustainable Management of Specific Waste in Kakheti
Wasteless is launching a large-scale regional project in Kakheti focused on the sustainable management of specific waste streams and raising environmental awareness. The initiative will cover all eight municipalities of the region and aims to introduce modern waste management systems, strengthen environmentally responsible practices, and foster a culture of sustainable behavior at the local level.
As part of the project, memorandums of cooperation will be signed with municipalities to establish long-term partnerships, ensuring the systematic and sustainable development of waste management across the region.
The initiative also includes a strong educational component. A total of 31 public schools from eight cities in Kakheti will be selected, where training sessions and presentations will be conducted. Students will be introduced to the principles of the circular economy, the importance of waste management, and key environmental issues.
The project aims to raise environmental awareness and shape future generations into responsible citizens. Engaging school-aged youth is particularly important, as this is the stage when environmentally responsible behavior and ecological culture are formed.
Within the project, waste collection days will be organized, during which schools will compete with one another. The initiative will culminate in a large-scale festival, where winning schools will be identified and awarded.
This initiative represents an important step toward building an environmental culture in the region and strengthening the process of transforming waste into a valuable resource. In the long term, it is expected to have a positive impact on both the environment and the local community.
On March 30, a presentation of the project was held in Telavi, attended by Maia Bitadze, Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, along with representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Parliament of Georgia.
